what are nonverbal learning difficulties
Nonverbal Learning Disabilities (NLD) refer to problem solving which does not directly involve the use of spoken language.
Parents and teachers should beware of a potential confusion of terminology in this area (as in others!)
These problems refer to difficulties with regard to problem-solving which does not directly involve the use of spoken language.
Examples include: problems with handwriting and/or arithmetic; confusion with regard to directionality and/or spatial organisation; problems understanding maps or concepts in science and geography. The picture can be complicated by poor short-term memory, and physical co-ordination problems.
There can also be problems with regard to hyperactivity. Some individuals present as having personality and/or behaviour difficulty which can handicap them socially.
A careful consideration of the whole picture by the psychologist is essential.
Other terms used with reference to this group of difficulties include:
* Performance Deficit
* Right Hemisphere Syndrome
* Strauss Syndrome.
