learning difficulties: left-handers / lefthanders / lefties / southpaws

Fascinating left-hanPicture - Left-Handed Logoded facts

I make no apologies for including the left-handed students in this website. Although these students do not come into the UK’s, Special Educational Needs Definition, their educational needs in many cases are not being met. The fact that these young children have to struggle so hard just to be able to write should mean that the schools have a duty to provide extra support for them – over and above their peer group.

Many people have had problems because they are left-handed, but as you can see from the list below, it is not all negative.

* Stuttering and dyslexia occur more often in left-handers (particularly if they are forced to change their writing hand as a child, like King of England George VI).

* Left-handers excel particularly in tennis, baseball, swimming and fencing.

* 4 of the 5 original designers of the Macintosh computer were left-handed.

* 1 in 4 Apollo astronauts were left-handed - 250% more than the normal level.

Find lots more fascinating facts and information, by going to the superb, official Left-Handers Website.
