health & dyslexia: Auditory difficulties Fast ForWord
Dr Tallal and Dr Merzenich founded a company, Scientific Learning to sell a computer game intended to improve the hearing of children with language problems. Some children with dyslexia have found this programme to be very helpful.
Fast ForWord works on the principle that some children with language problems do not hear sounds correctly. Fast ForWord helps to improve phoneme recognition accentuating each sound - as mothers do when they use baby talk.
Fast ForWord is a CD-ROM and Internet-based training programme it has been shown to improve phonological awareness including, auditory processing speed, and working memory.
The programme consists of regular daily training sessions for 20 minutes at a time.
